Inspired by Alan Dein's seminal radio show 'The Howling Terror Mystery', finetuned began work on a crazy live project that was doomed from its very inception:
"The Howling Terror will showcase new commissions by four internationally renowned artists working with sound in a special live event at Devil’s Dyke, Sussex in November 2008.
These new works will be especially composed for the auxetophone - the world’s first acoustic amplifier invented in the late 19th Century by Horace L. Short and will celebrate the birth of amplification and its inaugural demonstration, by Short, at the Dyke in 1900.
The Howling Terror aims to revive the awesome power of the Auxetophone with some of the world’s leading sound artists in the unique setting of Devil’s Dyke on the noisiest night of the year."
